Due to the impending weather on Saturday, we have adjusted our schedule for the Polar Plunge. After consulting with KOMU meteorologist Tim Schmidt, who will be one of our emcees, we have adjusted the schedule as follows:
- 1:00 pm Registration Opens
- 2:30 pm Parade of Costumes Lineup
- 2:45 pm Parade of Costumes Starts
- 3:00 pm Plunge Begins
Safety is our No. 1 priority. We appreciate our participants' flexibility to ensure it is safe, fun and successful event. We love our polar bears!

This "unbearable" event is a unique opportunity to show your bravery as you support local Special Olympics athletes by plunging into the frigid winter waters. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics Missouri. SOMO exists to provide year-round sports and training opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities and our athletes need you to get involved. Become a coach, volunteer, recruit a future athlete and learn how you can make a difference!

Participants must be at least 10 years old and raise a minimum of $75 by event day. Additional prizes can be earned by raising the following amounts:

The Polar Plunge is a project of the Law Enforcement Torch Run(R) for Special Olympics Missouri. Columbia Police Department and Columbia Fire Department are proud to host this event.
Polar Plunge is a family friendly event. Special Olympics Missouri promotes inclusion as a way of life for not only our athletes but everyone at our events. We reserve the right to ask anyone to alter/remove their costume if found offensive or harmful to those in attendance.
