This "unbearable" event is a unique opportunity to show your bravery as you support local Special Olympics athletes by plunging into the frigid winter waters. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics Missouri. SOMO exists to provide year-round sports and training opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities and our athletes need you to get involved. Become a coach, volunteer, recruit a future athlete and learn how you can make a difference!

Pre-Registration saves time on event day.  Friday, March 2 from 3:30 to 6:00 at the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau, 300 S. Providence Road, Columbia, MO  65203. Check in will include shirt pickup, incentive prizes and heat assignments.  Minors need a parent to sign their waiver.  Visit the Event Details page for further details.

Plunge Day Schedule:  Registration opens at 10:00; 12:00 Noon is the Parade of Costumes followed by the Plunge.

Participants must be at least 10 years old and raise a minimum of $75 each by event day. The Polar Plunge is a project of the Law Enforcement Torch Run(R) for Special Olympics Missouri. Columbia PD is proud to host this event.

Polar Plunge is a family friendly event.  Special Olympics Missouri promotes inclusion as a way of life for not only our athletes but everyone at our events.  We reserve the right to ask anyone to alter/remove their costume if found offensive or harmful to those in attendance.

You may mail offline donations to: Special Olympics Missouri, Columbia Polar Plunge, 1001 Diamond Ridge, Suite 800, Jefferson City, MO 65109. Please include your name in the memo line of checks.

As you know, there are some expenses associated with any special event.  The Polar Plunge is no different.  Thanks to a donation from Veterans United, they are covering 100% of those expenses so 100% of the funds raised by our polar bears will go to the programs for 2,400 Special Olympics athletes who participate year-round in mid-Missouri.  Please share this with your donors and thanks Veterans United!
